Nurturing The Best Programme

AIM

To nurture and harness the potential of students in the top 2 classes in Sec 1 to Sec 3, particularly in these areas : Cognitive Development, Talent Development, Social & Personal Development and Leadership Development.

In the area of Cognitive Development, students are exposed to a range of higher-order critical thinking activities as part of the differentiated curriculum. Lessons are designed to engage students in problem-solving, independent and self-directed learning. Students are also given opportunities to engage in group discussions and activities to encourage greater creativity and depth in their learning. Other Enrichment Programmes have also been integrated into the curriculum to give greater exposure to our students. ( For eg. Science – Crystal Growing, Geog Field Trip, World Expo in Japan etc )

Pupils who show talents in certain areas are also given opportunities to groom and nurture these talents by way of participation in national and international competitions. Some of the students’ achievements include: ‘Odyssey of the Mind’ (National Competition: 1st runner-up; Represented Singapore in International Competition in Colarado, USA) , Creative Graffiti Competition (Champion) , New South Wales Science International Competition ( Distinction and High Distinction results ), South Zone Millennium Race (D&T competition), Scrabble Competition etc.

Pupils are given training to equip them with fundamental leadership principles. In addition, these pupils will be given opportunities to assume leadership roles either within the classroom or in their CCA, in order for them to further develop these skills. Sec 2 students have attended the ‘Essence of Leadership Course’ to equip them with essential leadership skills.

Social awareness and personal effectiveness of these pupils are enhanced by a range of special workshops which are conducted. These workshops include aspects such as ‘Social Etiquette’ and ‘Public Speaking’ which would enhance the overall effectiveness of the student.

As part of their leadership and social development, pupils of these classes have also been given various opportunities to serve in the school or community. For eg. students worked in partnership with our Parents Support Group to set-up a ‘Café’ during the ACS Carnival and ACJC Fun-O-Rama; students served as ushers during MTPs; pupils also helped to set up and organize events like the school’s Maths Fair etc.
