Matt 20: 25 - 28
“But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many.”
Vision:
“All ACSian can lead and are given a chance to lead”
Mission:
“To nurture servant leaders who place others before self, possess initiative, responsible and display the Barker Way (Respect, Integrity, Commitment, Excellence).
Definition of servant leadership is as follow: "It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead." In other words, a servant leader is one who sees the calling to serve and thus stepping out to lead.
A servant leader qualifies to be first by putting other people first. They are in charge principally to charge up others In reality, true leadership is and has always been a selfless action. It involves taking himself out of the picture and considering the needs of others. It is a way of thinking that takes other people into account even when his own needs are pressing. It asks what is right or best in the wider interest.
Leadership training programme:
The training programme adopts a H3 approach (Head, Hand and Heart) to develop servant leaders. The programme is aligned closely to the Social Emotional Learning competencies.
All students will go through a structured 3 year training programme, consisting of instructional and experiential modules.
Student leaders go through a rigorous process of identification, development (training) and performance evaluation. The student leaders were also given numerous platforms to apply and hone the leadership skills learnt. Teacher mentors were assigned to the different categories of student leaders to guide and develop the student leaders through regular interaction.
The leadership model adopted by our school is “The Leadership Challenge” by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner (1987). You can read more about The Leadership Challenge at http://www.leadershipchallenge.com/WileyCDA/.
Training programme is evaluated and reviewed regularly to ensure that it stays relevant, effective and adequate.
